Del Rio Days getting set

Brushy Mountain Bear Club members Monday night appointed chair
people to head committees for the upcoming Del Rio Days community
festival on September 30th and October 1st. The event has been
moved from the Del Rio School ball field to the Jones Nature
Center just across Highway 107 West and will begin on Saturday,
the 30th at 10AM, run through dusk, and reopen from Noon to 5PM
on Sunday, October 1st.
In charge of vendor operations will be Karen Hill, festival
grounds committee will be headed by Sam Hill and Yvonne Owens
will coordinate the weekends programs and entertainment.
Said Club President Vaughn Burgin The Bear Club has accepted
the Festival from the Del Rio Ruritan Club which for many years
has done an outstanding job running it. We will count on the
Ruritans for their continuing support and advice that we may,
together, produce a weekend show which will honor this fine
mountain community and our two hundred year heritage. He will
serve as Festival chairperson. This will be the new, the
re-invented and the most attended Del Rio Days in some years
because of all the new vendors, new programs and new location. .
Burgin said that the Brushy Mountain Bear Clubs focus is on
community involvement and participation. Formed in 1980 the
groups focus has been on families and Del Rio School. We have
purchased vans and electric wheelchairs for children, improved
school grounds, assisted in the building of the Jones Nature
Center and donated to many families in their most difficult of
times. Weve dug graves, cut and delivered firewood and cleared
Del Rio roads after storms. And we encourage safe, responsible
hunting with very minimal environmental impact. More than one
hundred families belong to the Brushy Mountain Bear Club.
The Bear Clubs primary fund raiser is an annual picnic and
auction in May. This Festival, said Burgin, will enable the
Club to expand our funding of community and family projects and
were actively seeking vendors of all sorts from arts and crafts
to food. Musicians will be welcomed on our live stage and in our
two jam session areas set in the woods and along the creek. All
vendors should contact Karen Hill immediately at 423-487-5514 and
entertainers call Yvonne Owens at 423-487-2629. Corporate
sponsorships and gifts/grants will always be appreciated.
